I ALWAYS hated when distributors quit my team to join another company. IT HURT … I TOOK IT PERSONALLY… IT THREATENED MY INCOME … IT THREATENED MY DREAMS … IT THREATENED MY LEADERSHIP SKILLS … IT THREATENED MY COMPANY … I wanted to find anything to justify how wrong the other person was … Most of the time it was all out of FEAR and SELFISHNESS looking at everything from my perspective.
Despite those feelings, I went completely opposite of my initial reactions. One of my favorite things to do was to HELP those who left the organization for another Network Marketing company or even those who quit the industry. I loved showing people I wasn’t full of crap saying that I cared about them when they were part of the team but then only to tear them apart when they decided to leave for somewhere else. I know that sounds CRAZY.
Of course, I am competitive and had a wide range of emotions right when I found out a good friend was leaving the team. I wasn’t excited they were leaving by any means, but I was mature enough to know that the relationship is the most important aspect. I figured:
- They made the wrong decision by leaving
- They made the right decision by leaving
But either way, what does it matter? They left, so why not stay friends? (Not always possible, but I’ll always do my part. And yes, sometimes YOU need to cut ties).
Our profession is one of the few industries where money is so closely connected to relationships. At times, this can cloud our judgment and emotions. It can bring out the worst in us. If you can’t stay friends (yes, there are exceptions) with those who leave for other companies or industries, you are a FAKE. It was ALL just about the money.
Look at the very top industry leaders and see how close they are with those who have left their teams. If they aren’t friends with the majority of people who have left their teams, that says EVERYTHING about them.
Don’t just tell people who you are. SHOW THEM. When you have major challenges in life is when your true colors show.
For the last 7 plus years I have been committed to coaching, keynote speaking and consulting in network marketing. I am no longer a distributor in the field. My goal is to help elevate this profession.
