Everyone knows that consistency is the key; it’s not what you do once, but what you do consistently that really matters. Anyone can go to the gym and eat well one day, the healthiest people consistently work-out and eat well. Anyone can hit 1 good golf shot, the top players (and earners) hit consistently good golf shots.
And in this business – anyone can blitz for a week, even a month. But if you want to reach the top of your company (and stay there), it requires doing the work consistently.
I’m sure I’m not telling you anything you don’t know at the moment. Everyone knows they need to be consistent, but not everyone knows what they should consistently do.
Which is why we train our team in ‘The Fortune Four’ – the 4 tasks they should focus on – and create consistency in their actions.
The Fortune 4
- Grow Your Network
- Market to Your Network
- Make an Offer to Your Network
- Invite Your Network to an Event
Consistent action, at whatever level you can maintain, is the key to success. Consistency of action compounds, eventually snowballing into momentum. Blitzes are great (in moderation), but if you crash afterwards and need 3 weeks to recover, then it would have all been for nothing.
Because when it really boils down, your commission cheque isn’t based on what you do on your high days, but what you do on your low days. We don’t rise to the level of our best blitzes but fall the level of our lowest activities. It’s not our maximums that define our future, but our minimums.
And this is especially relevant with financial freedom. Freedom isn’t measured by what you earn in good weeks or through bonuses, but what you earn on the quiet weeks. The most financially free people have the most reliable income. Their lowest cheques are still more than enough to pay all of their bills.
And that why we’ve always focused on the minimums of our business, not the maximums. We used blitzes sparingly, creating a culture of reliability over variety. Reliability leads to freedom – and the extras were a bonus, like a nice dessert. Dessert is always amazing, but you can’t live of it.
Plus, consistency is the most important ingredient in developing reliability, and reliability is essential for Leadership. If you’re inconsistent, your team will see you as unreliable. And nobody will be inspired into greatness by an unreliable sponsor.
Your ‘BAM’
To help with creating consistent habits, we used the term ‘BAM’ in our team – the Bare Arse Minimum. What is the bare arse minimum you can do each and every day?
Let’s say you ‘only’ did these four BAM tasks once each day. You would:
- Grow your list by 365 people.
- Build credibility and brand equity with 365 people.
- Have 365 people look at your business.
- Invited 365 people to learn more about taking the next steps.
I would almost guarantee your business would be stronger at the end of the year with those numbers. And remember, they’re just minimums. Maybe on the weekend you can do a bit more? Saturday and Sunday you do each task 3 times instead of 1, and now you’ve met, connected with and invited over 500 people into your business in one year.
As your business grows, you can start to reduce your hours in your job / workplace, freeing up time in your life to increase your BAM. You can start completing each task twice daily, and a few extra on weekends, and now you’re completing these activities 1,000 times per year!
Even with a 90% ‘No’ rate, you still add 100 people to your business personally. If just 10 of those people are duplicating your actions and adding 100 people each, you now have 1,000+ people being added into your business each year minimum.
You’re ‘failing’ 90% of the time and still growing your business by 1,000+ people a year – all by focusing on the key activities and avoiding the distractions.
Remember: successful people don’t do extraordinary things; they do the ordinary things better and more often.
Create your own minimums and create a culture of consistency in your team – and you’ve put yourself into the 1%. Your consistent actions will get your business moving forward and people will see you as a leader they want to align with. Stay focused and on track, complete your BAM daily – and watch the amazing changes to your bank account.
