Old is New Again in Network Marketing: A Shift Back to Basics

Let’s dive into some context for the network marketing industry.

For a long time, many leaders and companies viewed social media as a non-duplicable tool. But over time, it became clear that social media could indeed work well, enhancing the timeless principles always taught in our industry.

Social media strategies became essential for teams to avoid being scattered. It turned into a staple for almost every growing team.

Leaders improved their use of Facebook groups, fostering an impressive online culture. Posts, lives, stories, reels, and content improved, and network marketers began to grasp the power of personal branding.

Customer and recruiting Facebook groups popped up, aiding recruitment and retention. Social media leveled the playing field, making success more accessible for the average person. Some systems were so effective that even those with minimal skills found success.

However, in the last few years, I’ve noticed a shift.

Social media remains crucial, but it’s become more complicated for the average person to succeed. People’s attention spans are shorter, their expectations higher, and the competition for captivating content on social media has intensified. There are always new systems innovating the way we do things.  Don’t get me wrong – as a social media coach, I love social media. But here’s the thing: old is new again.

Especially in the last five years, there’s been a diminishing focus on teaching the fundamentals of network marketing.

Basic skills have declined. With the economy struggling and tighter budgets, things are more challenging in all industries, including ours.

Remember the days of Super Saturdays, all about honing skills? I’m not saying we need to bring back Super Saturdays per se, but we definitely need to return to teaching the basics. The basics BALANCED with leveraging NEW technologies!

Successful people excel because they do the basics better.

It’s time to step up our game and develop more leaders.

Let’s continue to adapt with technology while also returning to our roots to strengthen our foundation in network marketing!
